The Downtown Ithaca Alliance has a challenging yet fascinating job opening available for the right person. We are seeking a Director of Marketing for the organization. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, hard-working person with proven skills and expertise in marketing, communications, and special events.

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) is a New York State chartered Business Improvement District. The DIA has a broad group of diverse stakeholders, including retail and restaurant businesses, office and service businesses, property owners and landlords, downtown residents, civic leaders, and public officials. Our marketing efforts cover all aspects of downtown promotion. We work with limited budgets and seek people who are creative and adept at leveraging resources and building exciting programs, projects, and initiatives with tight budgets. We are a high profile and highly visible organization in our community and you will be both recognized for your work and held accountable for its success.

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance staff work as a collaborative team and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to work well in a team environment. This is a roll up your sleeves job. While several people will report to you, you will be a doer as well as a supervisor. You must be able to handle a diverse and ever-changing list of tasks, ranging from manual labor to major marketing campaigns. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate experience working in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance is a community economic development 501(c)3 organization charged with the enhancing the development, marketing, management, and promotion of downtown Ithaca. The BID works primarily within a 22 block district, but has linkages and relationships with community stakeholders from throughout the region.

The ideal candidate will be able to excel at the following:

  • A working knowledge/familiarity of downtown/community marketing;
  • Experience working with small businesses, particularly retail and restaurant businesses;
  • Background in special event planning and implementation;
  • Background in advertising, public relations , and communications/marketing plans;
  • A proven track record in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills;
  • Web site and social media experience for an organization;
  • An ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill the mission of the DIA;

The salary range for this position is $45,000- $50,000, depending on qualifications. This is a full time, exempt position that reports to the Executive Director. It has a package of benefits that includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and leave time.

A short list of candidates will be created and additional information will be requested from this group. A smaller group will be selected for interviews by the Executive Director, other DIA staff, and selected downtown community members. We are looking for our successful candidate to be on board in October 2014.
